A Celebration of Cricket

Arundel Castle Cricket is hosting ‘A Celebration of Cricket for All at Arundel', a series of 12 events between 25 July and 20 September taking place at the picturesque Arundel Castle Cricket Grounds.

The 2020 cricket season has been significantly impacted by the ongoing pandemic. However, thanks to the enormous generosity of one of our supporters, the Arundel Castle Cricket Foundation and the Friends of Arundel Castle Cricket Club have been working together to make Arundel’s beautiful ground available to a wide range of organisations for the remainder of the summer. Our aim is to bring joy back to the lives of those most in need after the ravages of Covid-19.

We are excited to have linked up with a broad range of community groups and cricketing charities for this celebration, including the England and Wales Cricket Board, Chance to Shine, the MCC Foundation, the Ruth Strauss Foundation, the Sussex Cricket Foundation and the Southern Vipers.

Director of Arundel Castle Cricket Foundation, Tim Shutt, said: “Arundel will host a series of 12 events between 25 July and 20 September, each of which will have a different purpose and beneficiary group. Together, we will strive to make the summer of 2020 memorable for the right reasons, using cricket to bring families, friends and communities back together again.”

Our ‘Celebration of Cricket’ series will be in addition to the Arundel Castle Cricket Foundation’s core activities and the scheduled fixtures of the Friends of Arundel Castle Cricket Club. For all events, we will ensure there is full compliance with the latest government guidelines.

Thursday 30th July - #RedforRuth Fun Family Cricket Day

The first of our ‘Celebration of Cricket’ events took place on Thursday 30th July in support of the Ruth Strauss Foundation.   26 families dressed in red on the beautiful outfield at Arundel to have fun and play games to raise money for a great cause.  The Ruth Strauss Foundation supports families facing the death of a parent from cancer & drives the need for more research into non-smoking lung cancers.

Thursday 6th August - MCC Foundation Cricket Hub Day

The next in our series of ‘Celebration of Cricket’ events saw us host the MCC Foundation, who celebrated the return of recreational cricket, with a triangular tournament between their Brighton, Eastbourne, and Waverley Cricket Hubs.  It was a closely fought competition, with some exceptional performances from the talented Hub players throughout the day. The Waverley Hub eventually secured victory in dramatic fashion, beating the Eastbourne Hub by one run on the final delivery of the match.

COVID-19 has meant young cricketers across the UK have been deprived of cricket this summer and this tournament gave the Foundation's Hub players the chance to get back on the pitch and to play the game they love.
